Ellen & Jeff

30 Jul 2016

This hot sunny day began with Jeff, his ushers and soon to be family members, setting up the Barn whilst Ellen was getting all glammed up for her big reveal with her maids in anticipation.

The lovely couples’ day was extra special for them as most of their friends and Jeff’s family had travelled all the way from Australia to be a part of their big day.

The morning was made even more enjoyable as Jeff and his ushers had set up their 5-piece band for the Drinks Reception and Evening Celebrations. We were all lucky enough to get a glimpse of their rehearsal.

The time came for Ellen’s big moment, she looked gorgeous! Her maids led the way to the Arbour all looking stunning as ever, followed by a very nervous but beautiful Bride and her father.

My favourite moment of the day, was seeing the new Mr & Mrs dancing their way back down the aisle as a Married couple!

The rest of the day ran smoothly and all guests looked like they were having a ball!

Ellen had arranged a surprise for her new husband with video messages from all of Jeff’s friends and family who couldn’t be there to celebrate the day with them. I can imagine there wasn’t a dry eye around!

We were very lucky as a team here at Hyde House to be a part of their special days and to be able to share their day with you.

I wish the lovely couple all the best in their bright future together in Australia <3

Here are a couple of pictures of their day by the very talented Sue Lloyd…X.

Samantha & Mark - 24.04.16

31 May 2016

On Sunday 24 April 2016 we had the privilege of hosting Samantha and Mark’s gorgeous wedding.

The day started with Samantha and her maids decorating the barn with lots of lovely personal touches, including the floral arrangements which they lovingly put together the day before. We also had the pleasure of welcoming House of Bunting back to Hyde House who created the phenomenal floral chandelier and elegant white draping which made for a really romantic atmosphere in the barn.

The celebrations ran smoothly from start to finish with the happy couple beaming throughout and it was lovely to see Samantha so calm during the mornings preparations. We so loved the bouncy castle provided by Oxygen Discos for all of the guests to enjoy. It proved to be popular even more so with the adults than the children!

The photographer James Fear, captured such breathtaking pictures of the Bride and Groom and their guests, which we are very excited to share with you. James’ images were so creative and we loved the intimate couples photos taken in the neighbouring rapeseed fields!

Wishing the lovely couple so much love and happiness in their married lives together. It was a privilege to be a part of their special day!

Here is a selection of James’ wonderful pictures taken on the day. X.

Sophie & Matt

03 Feb 2016

In November 2015, we were lucky enough to host the wedding reception of Sophie & Matt. Their whole day was so spectacular, that we just HAD to share it with you... here is what they had to say.

Sophie & Matt

We loved your crisp autumn/winter wedding style and colours, were these elements something you particularly had in mind when choosing a venue?

We hadn't initially planned for a winter wedding at all! We had always imagined an April/May wedding complete with plenty of hessian and bunting! However, the first time we came to view Hyde Barn was in November 2013 and we instantly loved the cosy, warm feel of the place, complete with the fabulous fairy lights strung up on the gorgeous wooden beams.

It was only when my sister (an events planner herself) suggested a "winter wedding" that we seriously considered it and the ideas began to flow. The time of year also took so much pressure off having the perfect sunny weather that everyone hopes for on their big day.

The weather on the day for us was far from ideal but we had made plans for this and once we arrived at the barn with a glass of Prosecco in hand, we didn't even notice the gale force winds and torrential rain going on outside! It made for some great photos as well!

The Hyde Barn team were lucky enough to meet the Pearce/Riding clan several times throughout your wedding planning process, so we know that you are a very tight knit family! What was the biggest benefit of having the family around to support your planning?

The team at Hyde barn were always so willing for us to come and view the barn whenever we needed to in the months running up to the wedding. This allowed for Matt's family, in particular, to really get a feel for the place as they don't live locally - Lancashire to be precise!

It was really important for us to have our family involved in the planning of our day as everyone provided their own great ideas, from tangerine coloured ribbons on the wedding car and personalised rock on the sweetie table (paying homage to Matt's Blackpool roots). To old family photos on display from our parents' and grandparents' weddings...

And of course, our turquoise VW campervan, Mrs Hoskins, to transport us from the church to the venue - luckily the AA didn't have to be called at any point during the day!

We were also really lucky to have had free reign of the barn the day before in order to set up. A great opportunity to enlist the help of lots of willing family and friends to put the perfect finishing touches to our venue!

The dress!! Jaw dropping! Did it take you long to find something that suited the season so perfectly?

Not at all! It was roughly the fifth or sixth dress I tried on in the first shop I visited! The moment I put it on my mum and bridesmaids all agreed that it was the type of dress they had pictured me in. I carried on trying a few more but quickly became disinterested in everything else but that original dress!

The moment I put it back on I knew this was the dress I wanted to get married in, I felt like how I thought a bride should feel. And on the day I certainly did; with the help of a few finishing touches such as my sister's veil, my grandma's engagement ring, and grandad's six pence in my shoe!

And the Men’s suits all fitted so well with your wedding styling. Did Matt pick his own, or was this something that Sophie had a hand in?

Matt always knew what he wanted to wear for the wedding, it certainly helped that I also approved of his choice! It was great to see our dads getting fully involved in the dressing up too!

However, we would always recommend getting the suits sorted in plenty of time - having 2 ushers with an average height of 6 foot 6 inches made for some very swift last minute alterations 48 hours prior to the big day!

The Vyne String Quartet who played throughout the drinks reception and wedding breakfast were fantastic, was music an important part in the day for you?

We first saw the Vyne String Quartet at Hyde barn's Wedding Inspiration Day and after listening to a few songs from their vast repertoire we booked them there and then! We loved their classic style with a modern twist and had a great time seeing our friends and family's reactions to guessing their favourite songs.

Two of our guests particularly enjoyed hearing a song playing that they had walked down the aisle to approx 2 years before!

What were your thoughts when choosing your menu and drinks options?

Matt and I are both big foodies! So the menu choice was always going to be a hard one for us! The menu tasting evening we attended at Hyde House definitely helped in narrowing down our options! We always said we wanted something warm and comforting to fit with our theme, so what better than a traditional roast with all the trimmings followed by a huge bowl of steaming crumble and custard... I only wish my dress was slightly looser to allow me to eat every delicious morsel!

The Hyde barn staff were also great at allowing us to tailor our drinks package, with the option of prosecco or pink fizz (or both!!), and a barrel of locally sourced ale behind the bar to satisfy our northern guests!!!

What was your defining moment of the day?

It's so hard to pick just one thing, as the whole day itself was a defining moment! However, being able to have all of our friends and family in one place was great, as well as the fabulous talents they all offered... From our awesome wedding cake, made by a lovely neighbour and friend, to a simply amazing wedding DJ who ensured the dance floor was full for the entire night... To name a few!

The venue looked exactly as we had imagined and wanted it to! The weather may have been less than perfect, but we couldn't have asked for the day to have gone any better. Thank you so much to the amazing team at Hyde Barn who made the daunting task of planning a wedding a truly enjoyable one - we can't recommend them enough!

A huge thank you to the fantastic Rob Tarren Photography for providing these stunning photographs. Though his work speaks for himself, we can highly recommend him too!

Harriet and Craig’s Big Day

02 Oct 2014

The gorgeous Harriet & Craig had an absolutely beautiful wedding this summer inspired by Pinterest… our guilty pleasure!

I was lucky enough to catch up with the newly-weds last week to talk all things style after their wedding in June.

Attention Hyde Barn Brides and Grooms to be: Tips ahead!!

Harriet & Craig

Did you have a checklist when choosing your venue, if so what were your most important points?

It was really important for our wedding venue to have some kind of accommodation as all of Craig’s family were travelling down from Scotland. We wanted somewhere that was exclusively ours for the day and we really wanted it to be a modern venue. We booked our venue 2 weeks after getting engaged, and Hyde Barn was the only venue we looked at! We knew it looked perfect on the website, but coming to view it confirmed that.

It was completely our style – modern, yet it still had beautiful features and it was so light and airy! It also had the bedrooms, exclusivity and was fairly close to Cheltenham, where we met at University which we thought was lovely and very fitting.

We loved your gorgeous styling; did you use social media (Pinterest/Facebook/Instagram) for ideas?

I religiously used Pinterest! My lunch hour at work was taken over for the whole 18 month planning period looking for ideas of things we could do or make. I also found it really helpful to look at real weddings online, and read what brides had to say about their suppliers and experiences.

Craig had to reign in my ideas a few times as my Pinterest board kept on growing! It definitely helped give us inspiration though, and a place to start as when you get engaged it’s actually quite a daunting having to start planning and styling a whole wedding from scratch!

Tell us some more about your styling (e.g. did you use a wedding stationer? florist? did you hire items? Was there much DIY styling?)

Styling was really important to us, so we decided quite early on how we wanted to table and venue to look meaning we had a long time to get everything done that we wanted to make the venue look unique to us. We wanted the day to really reflect us a couple, and we felt the best way to do this was to make and do as much as we could ourselves.

We spent our evenings and weekends for 18 months being crafty and making all we could. We made all of our invitations, my little sister even drew a gorgeous picture of Hyde Barn, that we then got turned into a stamp for the inside of the invites. We also used the stamp one the menus and wedding advice sheets that we designed.

We made the table plan with the help of my mum, transforming a huge old framed mirror with some crackle effect decopatch paper and twine. Our place names were corks that we sliced to fit name cards with guests names on.

We chose wild flower seed packets for our favours, so we spent a long time stamping small money envelopes with a bespoke stamp reading ‘let the love grow’. My Grandad made us the most amazing bunting to hang around the venue. My favourite part of the tables was the heart confetti, cut from old novels, and the napkin ties we created using twine and porcelain hearts reading ‘love’ that we got made for us.

We used the lovely Laura from Cotswold Blooms for our table flowers and bouquets and they looked stunning. My mum and I did the rest of the flowers for the venue, putting summer flowers in jam jars that we had decorated with twine and lace.

My dad made us a wonderful cake stand that fitted in perfectly with the rustic feel of everything else, to house the cake that my Auntie made for us. Every aspect worked so well together in the end, and all the time spent was totally worth it.

Was there a stand out moment of your big day?

For me a real stand out moment of the day was sitting at the top table, with my new husband next to me, and just looking at all our friends and family laughing and joking and enjoying themselves. It’s such a lovely feeling to have everyone you love in one room all celebrating together.

Walking down the aisle was also one of my favourite parts of the day. I was so calm on the morning of the wedding but when the doors opened I started to get nervous, luckily the first person I saw my best friend Katie smiling at me so seeing her calmed me before then walking down the aisle to meet Craig. I managed to walk slowly with my dad to try take it all in – a tip many other brides had told me before the wedding.

Is there a tip you would pass on about setting up the barn on the morning of your wedding?

We found it really helpful visiting the barn a few weeks before the wedding to take pictures and measure up all the spaces that are available to decorate. That way you can plan where you want everything so on the morning it’s fairly stress free.

We also divided everything we needed for the tables into numbered plastic tubs – one per table so on the day it was just the simple task of styling the tables one by one, knowing all the favours, place names, tables names and menus etc. had already been checked and counted. My mum and I disappeared off to the hair dressers at 10am, so all the venue set up was really down to my dad and bridesmaids and it looked amazing! The staff at Hyde Barn were on hand to help with anything we needed though, and helped in any way they could.

Thank you both for your lovely words and for choosing Hyde Barn!!

Lots of Love and the best of wishes for your future together!

And of course of huge thank you to Ben @ Blooming photography for sharing the stunning images!!
